Dances with Wolves Musical  |  Official Site of Jonathan K. Waller  |  Composer of words, music and ideas

Sometimes we write songs so a producer can see what our vision would be for a musical story. The producers who obtained the musical rights to this 7-time Academy Award-winning film ultimately went another direction. But ahh, the road not taken...

Lt. John Dunbar is dubbed a hero after he accidentally leads Union troops to a victory during the Civil War. He requests a position on the western frontier, but finds it deserted. He soon finds out he is not alone, but meets a wolf he dubs "Two-socks" and a curious Indian tribe. Dunbar quickly makes friends with the tribe -- who come to know him as "Dances with Wolves" -- and discovers a white woman, “Stands With a Fist”, who was raised by the Indians. As time passes he becomes enamored by "Stands With a Fist" and as he gradually earns the respect of these native people, he begins to shed his white-man's ways.
